Ingredients

  • 1 cup fine cornmeal
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 8 hot dogs (beef, turkey, or veggie)
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Gather all ingredients on your countertop. If desired, cut hot dogs in half for smaller bites.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together cornmeal, flour, baking powder, chili powder, salt, and pepper. Gradually stir in milk and eggs until smooth.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a deep pot or fryer to 375°F (190°C).
  4. Insert wooden skewers into each hot dog, dip them in the batter allowing excess to drip off.
  5. Carefully place the coated hot dogs into the hot oil; fry for 3-4 minutes or until golden brown. Do not overcrowd the pot.
  6. Remove from oil and drain on paper towels; serve immediately with mustard or ketchup.
