  • 12 oz spaghetti
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1/2 cup plain breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 28 oz canned San Marzano tomatoes
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, salt, pepper, and minced garlic; mix until just combined.
  2. Shape the mixture into small meatballs.
  3. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat; add meatballs in batches and cook until browned on all sides (5-7 minutes). Remove from skillet.
  4. In the same skillet, sauté chopped onion until translucent, then add minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds.
  5. Pour in the canned tomatoes along with oregano and basil; simmer for 15 minutes.
  6. Return meatballs to the sauce; simmer together for an additional 10-15 minutes.
  7. Cook spaghetti according to package instructions until al dente; drain.
  8. Serve spaghetti topped with meatballs and sauce; garnish with extra Parmesan if desired.
