Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 egg whites
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup melted butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare two 9-inch round cake pans by greasing and lining them with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, whip the egg whites until soft peaks form. Gradually add in the sugar while beating until stiff peaks form.
  4. Gently fold the dry ingredients into the egg whites, alternating with milk and melted butter until just combined.
  5. Divide the batter between the prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  6. Allow cakes to cool for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks. Frost with whipped cream or fresh fruit if desired.
