  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • Red gel food coloring
  • Blue gel food coloring
  • Whipped cream (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream together softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy (about 3 minutes).
  4. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients alternately with milk, starting and ending with dry ingredients.
  6. Divide the batter into three bowls: leave one plain, color one red, and one blue using food coloring.
  7. Spoon dollops of each colored batter into prepared pans and swirl gently with a knife.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Cool in pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks.
