Description

Warm and comforting, this Best Spaghetti Meat Sauce combines ground beef, fresh tomatoes, and aromatic herbs for a dish that brings back cherished memories of family dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 28 oz can whole peeled tomatoes
  • 2 tsp dried oregano
  • 2 tsp dried basil
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • ½ cup red wine (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add chopped onions and minced garlic; sauté until fragrant and translucent (about 3-4 minutes).
  2. Increase heat slightly and add ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking up clumps as needed. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  3. Stir in canned tomatoes, crushing them by hand as you add them to the pot. Mix in oregano, basil, thyme, salt, and pepper.
  4. If using red wine, pour it into the mixture now and let simmer for about 5 minutes.
  5. Lower the heat and let the sauce simmer uncovered for 30-45 minutes until thickened, stirring occasionally.
  6. Taste and adjust seasoning before serving with pasta or on its own.
